tmnt playing cards

Tools used:

I used illustrator and photoshop to create these cards, most of the elements were created with procreate.

Description

The TMNT playing cards a small deck for a ton of fun with your family and friends. The target for these cards is people who of all ages with some type of knowledge (or not) on the OG 2003 ninja turtles.

Challenges

For this personal project, I decided to create playing cards with the concept and nostalgy from the 2003 cartoons.

Process

I genuinely scrapped two different ideas before getting this one. The first one was to make some playing cards with skulls, with each figure would show a different drawing style. The second was basically the same but instead of your regular deck, I would make it “UNO” playing cards.

After, contemplating what was I doing with my life, I realized that I have a lot of TMNT, I even have a tattoo of them. That’s when I knew what the concept would be. I had to choose what style to use for the design. For some reason, the 2003 style TMNT always stuck with me, so after breaking my head for a good three hours. I decided to take the 2003 style with some offset colours and create these cards.

Illustration

I decided to change the classic figures for each turtle’s weapon, and with this the A card would change depending on the weapon. The face cards are, Casey Jones, April O’Neil, Master Splinter and the last Ronin. For the back I kept it simple, with the turtle’s shell

Colours

I used blue, orange, red, and purple because of the mask of every turtle. I decided to place these colours on the font.
